STEEL FACING YOUR EXISTING WOODEN DOOR

A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE TO STRENGTHEN WOODEN DOORS

 

The external face of a wooden door can be protected with a steel sheet not less than 1.5mm thick, of sufficient width to overlap with leading edge of the door when closed.

The sheet can be secured to the top, bottom and side with dome headed coachbolts at intervals not exceeding 150mm. The securing nuts and washers to be on the inside of the door.

Alternatively, the sheet to be fixed using clutch head non return steel screws of maximum practical length at intervals not exceeding 100mm.

An addition hinge or hinges may be needed to support the extra weight of the steel.
